This means that you are ingesting more chemicals than ever before, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.
You’re also being exposed to toxins through your air and water supply every day. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) estimates that toxic chemicals in the air have increased by roughly 65 percent since 1970. There’s no way to completely avoid these chemicals, but there are ways to decrease your exposure levels so they don’t build up in your system.
Everyday life can expose us to hundreds or thousands of toxins—from all the places mentioned above and beyond—that cause allergies, asthma, and other illnesses over time.
The good news is that it’s possible to detoxify your body so it can function better again!

You may be wondering: isn’t my body designed to naturally detoxify anyway?
Well, you might be surprised to learn that our bodies are not able to remove all of the toxins we’re exposed to.
Our bodies have trouble keeping up with the rate at which they’re exposed to chemicals and toxins, such as those found in food, air pollution, and drinking water.
This can lead to a buildup of these toxins in your body, which can cause inflammation. Chronic inflammation is bad news because it is the root cause of many health problems including obesity, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and even cancer.
How do I detox my body?
The first step to detoxing your body is to flush out all the toxins. This involves reducing bad habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating junk food. On the other hand, it also means increasing positive habits such as adding more fruits and veggies to your diet, drinking plenty of water, and taking time every day to do something you enjoy.
Foods that are too acidic should be avoided while detoxing
- Salt: It’s easy to get carried away with the shaker, but too much salt can lead to high blood pressure and water retention, which doesn’t help your detox efforts. Avoid adding additional salt to your meals and opt for unsalted nuts instead of their salted counterparts.
- Caffeine: This one might be tough, but caffeine is a stimulant that may affect how quickly you can fall asleep and the quality of your slumber. Try swapping out your morning coffee with a matcha green tea latte or bulletproof coffee made with healthy fats such as coconut oil or MCT oil.
- Alcohol: Alcohol is also a diuretic, so when you drink alcohol it causes you to lose more water than you take in. The recommended amount of water to drink is eight 8-ounce glasses per day. That’s not a hard and fast rule, though — some people need more water than others depending on their diet, weight, and physical activity.
In addition to providing taste without adding calories or sugar, these citrus fruits also contain antioxidants that help support your health as you flush out toxins.
Eat a diet rich in fiber
The second prong of the attack on your body’s toxin levels is to change your diet. You can jumpstart this process by eating a diet rich in fiber.
Fibrous foods are often touted for their cardiovascular benefits, but they’re also great for detoxing.
This is good for two reasons: The first, obviously, is that it removes those toxins from your body, and the second is that it provides food for the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract—that’s right!

Supplement your diet with fibers and prebiotic foods
Psyllium is a type of prebiotic that helps good bacteria grow in your gut. You’re going to want to take it on an empty stomach because if you don’t, it will absorb some of the food you eat and you won’t get enough benefit from it. That means taking your fiber supplement at least one hour before or after a meal.
